Hello! I’m Laura Stokes, a licensed clinical social worker specializing in individual therapy with preteens, teens and adults. I’ve been in clinical practice for nearly a decade, working with children and teens with traumatic backgrounds for the bulk of my career. My areas of specialization include anxiety, depression, stress management, frustrating family dynamics, challenges with relationships and identity, self-esteem, and more. I also provide support for people who support others (i.e. caregivers, people in helping professions, parents, etc.). I pride myself in creating a space that feels safe and welcoming. I want you to come into my office always feeling heard and supported, no matter your circumstances.

I use my social work background to approach therapy through a person-centered, nonjudgmental lens. I primarily draw from Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), with an additional focus on attachment theory and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so from our first session together, we will talk about what feels important to you in making changes in your life and your story.

Outside of work, I am also a licensed foster parent in Richland County. The work I’ve done in the world of foster care and adoption has led me to continually grow as a trauma-informed therapist. I’m trained in Trauma-Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) for kids, and I’ve received specialized training in parenting kids with traumatic backgrounds.
